The VA Hearts of Healing Project: A Community Came Together to Keep a Family Together
Purple Heart Homes joins the Lynchburg Area Veterans Council and community partners to celebrate the completion of a home addition for a family in Hot Springs, Virginia.
In 2024, following the loss of a local Marine veteran, two young children suddenly needed a place to call home. Their aunt and her family didn't hesitate. They opened their home, determined to keep the siblings together and surrounded by family.
Making room for two growing children meant making room in the house, too.
The Lynchburg Area Veterans Council launched the VA Hearts of Healing Project, bringing together volunteers, donors, businesses, and community partners to help make that possible. Purple Heart Homes was proud to support the effort alongside the many individuals and organizations who answered the call.
Building a Home for the Future
The goal was simple: give the family the space they needed to stay together.
Over the course of the project, volunteers and community partners completed a 1,400-square-foot home addition, creating a safe and functional home for the family's next chapter.
Every person who donated, volunteered, or partnered on the project played a role in making that outcome possible.
A Community United
On June 30, 2026, volunteers, partners, and supporters gathered in Hot Springs, Virginia, to celebrate the completion of the VA Hearts of Healing Project.
The home dedication marked more than the completion of a construction project. It celebrated what can happen when people come together around a shared purpose.
While no home can erase loss, it can provide safety, stability, and the opportunity to move forward together.
